Salted Caramel Porridge

Sometimes you need a little indulgence in the morning. What's better than just a sweet tasting breakfast? One that also provides you with lots of fibre, healthy fats and calcium. Did you know that tahini (made from sesame seeds) is a plant-based source of calcium?

Salted Caramel Porridge

Serves 1

  • 1/2 cup quick oats (porridge oats)

  • 1 cup milk of choice

  • 3 dried dates

  • 1 small banana, sliced

  • 2 heaped tsp tahini

  • 1 tsp water

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 tsp maple syrup

  • Pepita seeds and flaxseeds for topping

  1. Place a small sauce-pan over medium heat

  2. Add oats, milk, dates and half the banana

  3. Stir until the oats are creamy (about 2-3 minutes) and the dates dissolve

  4. Stir in 1 heaped tsp tahini and the salt

  5. In a cup, mix the remaining tahini and water until a thin paste forms

  6. Pour porridge into a bowl

  7. Top with remaining banana, pepita seeds and drizzle the tahini sauce and maple syrup over the top
