Nutty Granola

Nutty Granola

I have been making my own granola for the last couple of years. I get so disappointed with the granola you find in the supermarket as so many brands add lots of sugar, salt and preservatives- no thanks! Not only is it really easy and quick to make at home but you know exactly what ingredients are in it.

Although granola is super tasty, it is very calorie dense so be mindful of your portion size. I recommend to stick to 1/4 cup - 1/2 cup serve.

Nutty Granola

Serves - to hunger

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats

  • 1/4 cup each of chopped walnuts, cashews & almonds

  • 2 tbs each of sunflower and pepita seeds

  • 3 tbs sunflower oil

  • Juice of 1 small/medium orange

  • 2 tbs date syrup (or maple syrup)

Method

  1. Pre-heat oven to 180°c fan forced

  2. Add all ingredients into a large bowl and mix to combine so that all the dry ingredients are evenly coated

  3. Pour onto 2 lined baking trays. Make sure the mixture is relatively flat but sticking together (it is really important not to overcrowd the granola otherwise the air can't circulate and it won't crunch up)

  4. Cook for approximately 15-20 minutes or until golden brown, checking regularly from the 10 minute mark

  5. Cool before removing from the tray so that little clusters form and store in an airtight container for 2-3 weeks (if it lasts that long!)
